Mrs. Stamm’s Honors Biology students recently engaged in an interactive lesson that deepened their understanding of signal transduction pathways. Students identified the key components of a signal transduction pathway and described how each component works together to produce a specific cellular response.
To make this complex concept more meaningful, students participated in a hands-on activity using the miracle berry. Students first applied the miracle berry in its natural form and then in tablet form to coat their mouths. They then taste-tested a variety of spicy and sour foods, carefully recording their observations and results.
Throughout the activity, students were highly engaged as they made real-world connections between their sensory experiences and how cells receive, transmit, and respond to signals. This memorable lab experience helped students connect abstract biological processes to everyday applications, reinforcing both content knowledge and scientific curiosity.
